This is... I suppose it's a poster for the animated version of Northern Lights that live in my head That's Lyra in the foreground, with the alethiometer in her hands, there's a bunch of His Dark Materials ephemera to her left - Iorek's helmet, the spilt decanter of Tokay, a cloudpine branch, the spyfly under a glass and the box he came from, and a rosary - and Pantalaimon, bird-formed.
Iorek's behind Lyra, and in the background is Bolvangar. It's not so clear in this scan but the aurora continues in the black border. I'd be very happy if someone who was good with typefaces wanted to mock this up as a film poster
I've just noticed - I painted this before I'd ever heard of Avatar, but Lyra's haircut and pale blue eyes make her look like Toph... wacky.
Love the colors. Great job. Don't see much His Dark Materials fanart.

You're right, Lyra does look somewhat like Toph, but she looks moreso like Eylon, from the W.I.T.C.H. series.
Acrylics, eh? It looks awesome. And I can still sort of see the aurora continuing, which is an interesting effect. Even more interesting is the choice of items you included. Great job on the picture as a whole!
This is such a beautiful design. I love How the northern lights stretch into the border, and all of those bits of ephemera as you call it The background is probably my favourite part, because it really does look like it's the arctic prison of Bolvangar. Great work!
I've featured this piece in my journal, I hope you don't mind, and I'd love to hear your opinions on the books and movie. Thanks!
I worked from Philip Pullman's own little drawing of Bolvangar that heads one chapter in Northern Lights (in the English edition anyway - dunno about the American one).
