EDIT: Now on my Tumblr here ([link]
Having done nothing of much use this week, I figured I might as well round it off with a Friday spent on this piece of didactic flippancy.
It's Sherlock! On the Discworld! To go with my even sillier Discworld Avengers ([link]
), I guess
As soon as I thought of Sherlock being transplanted to the disc, I knew sherlock would be a vampire - he just fits so perfectly into the Discworld version of Vampires. An addictive, highly intelligent figure who has chosen to abstain from blood (note his black ribbon) and so has a lot of additive obsessiveness to transfer to another pursuit - problem-solving.
I tried for a mixture of traditional vampire wear, traditional Sherlock-wear and specifically Benedict-wear in his clothes. So he has a black tweed Inverness(ish) cape and his clothes are halfway towards evening-wear.
John took me slightly longer to place amongst the cultures of the Disc - then it became obvious he would be an Igor. There's the established relationship between Igors and vampires. Then there is the fact that Igors are natural (or rather, unnatural) doctors. Furthermore, we see an example of a soldier-doctor-Igor(ina) in Mostrous Regiment.
Perhaps Igor-John served in the Borogravian army since Ankh-Morpork itself doesn't have a standing army if I recall. In any case I've reference that uniform for him. I tried for a combination of Discworld-military and outsized old hand-me-downs (the traditional attire of the Igor) in John's clothes.
And one would have to assume the term 'Igor' is by this point more of an honorific than a first name, at least in Ankh-Morpork, because you can't have John Watson not called John Watson.
I can so imagine Sherlock fitting into Ankh-Morpork in this incarnation - for one thing Vimes often references Sherlock-type detective work as something he hates, and his antipathy would only be increased by Sherlock being a vampire. So he's this Sherlock's Lestrade. As for Mycroft... maybe Sherlock would be related to Drumknott, if the Dark Clerks are a little like the Diogenes club?
